Obituary: Sitek, Loretta

SITEK, Loretta Our Mom, Loretta, left peacefully in her sleep to join the love of her life, Jim Sitek, on June 23, 2015.

They had been married for 53 years when Dad passed away in March 2007.

Loretta was born in Superior, Wisconsin on January 13, 1932 to Rose (Bouillon) and Charles Longrie, where she grew up with seven brothers and sisters.

She attended Cathedral High School in Superior and excelled at her studies and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Music was a passion and she continued to play piano and sing in various church choirs.

She told stories about summers spent at a relative’s farm and the opportunity to ride horses and tend animals all summer long.

She pursued an office administrator career and had a keen eye for details.

Loretta married our Dad in 1953 and moved to Spokane in 1957 where they raised two children Deborah (Sitek-Solatka) and Jeffery (wife,Billie).

Loretta was a trail blazer and role model, working full time at Carnation and finally as lab manager at Sacred Heart Hospital for over 40 years in the work world.

When the family moved to the Wandermere area in 1968 she had the opportunity to have her very own horse, a quarter horse affectionately known as “Tank”, not a fast mover but Mom loved to ride!

She enjoyed our families’ little red cabin on Loon Lake and spent many summers there enjoying the sun, BBQs, spirited games of horseshoes and even learning to swim!

She and Dad enjoyed RV trips back to Superior, the Oregon and Washington coast and especially when granddaughters Tairra (Brandon) and Rachelle (Sitek) joined in.

She was very proud of Deborah’s and Jeff’s advanced graduate degrees and professions.

As a longtime Seahawk season ticket holders, Mom and Dad spent numerous weekends cheering with daughter Deborah and husband Steve- even saying a few rosaries during the Super Bowls!

She enjoyed crafts (pottery, stained glass, card making) with daughter and granddaughters and inherited her Mother’s (Rose) sewing talents.

When Dad passed away and Mom moved to a smaller house, she continued to host birthday and holiday celebrations for her family.

Loretta found strength in her Catholic faith through good and bad times.

She and Dad were long time members of St. Thomas More Parish in Spokane.

In retirement they assisted with various food drives and made home deliveries for St. Vincent DePaul.

We will dearly miss her in our lives but will always remember her determination, strength, courage and unwavering dedication to her family.

The life’s lessons that she taught each of us are carried out every day.

The Celebration of Life mass will be on Monday, June 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery.
