Obituary: Boone, Garey Richard

BOONE, Garey Richard Passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Garey Richard Boone was born on January 20, 1946 in Fort Riley, Kansas to Major Loren and Joy Boone.

He was raised with his older sister Brenda and his younger brother Steven.

His family moved numerous times as Loren and Joy were ministers with the Salvation Army.

Garey graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas in 1964 and then attended Furman University for a brief time before joining the US Air Force.

While stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington he met and married Juli Ann Chapman his wife of 47 years.

During Garey’s four year service he served in Okinawa, Korea and Vietnam and was honorably discharged April 5, 1972.

When Garey returned home he started an apprenticeship at the Spokesman Review/Chronicle newspaper working in the pressroom becoming a journeyman pressman and retired after 32 years.

Once he retired he enjoyed going to Northtown Mall to walk and would treat himself to coffee at Thomas Hammers Coffee Shop where he made many new friends.

He called it going to his “Day Job.”

He enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, reading, movies, working on the computer and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Juli; sons Garey Jr (Katrinia), Thomas (Krista); grandchildren Kyle, Haley, Cassie, Allison, Tyler; sister Brenda Boone Klaas (Jim); nieces Debbie (Phil) and Jennifer (Skeet); and six great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Major Loren Boone, Major Joy Boone and his younger brother Steven Boone.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Hennessey Funeral Home, 1315 N Pines Rd, Spokane, WA.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or American Heart Association.
