Obituary: Schmidt, Kenneth Wilburt

Age 86

SCHMIDT, Kenneth Wilburt 12.8.1928 - 2.28.2015 Ken passed away peacefully at the Hospice House in Spokane, Washington.

Ken began his life on a farm in Staples, MN, but left to join the Air Force.

While in the Air Force, Ken married another Air Force Sgt, Willa (Kathy) Blacklock and upon their discharge, returned to Minnesota to begin their family.

Ken and Kathy moved West to the Central Coast of California in 1961.

They settled in Cambria, California and Ken began his Civil Service career at the Cambria Air Force Radar Site where he worked until he retired.

In addition, Ken operated a refrigeration repair business in Cambria.

Ken was very well liked and respected in his community.

He was actively involved in the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, making sausage, and Fiscalini bbqs.

Upon retirement, Ken and Kathy relocated to Newport, WA where they had a small farm on 15 acres and a house he built himself.

He volunteered for the Pend Oreille Search and Rescue and spent time fishing, and snowmobiling with his grandchildren.

When Kathy died, Ken began traveling and met his second wife, Mildred.

Ken and Midge enjoyed many years of traveling and living between their two homes in Lake Chelan, WA and Apache Junction, AZ.

He lived finally in his apartment at Candlelight Home in Spokane, WA.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Willa Kathryn Schmidt.

He is survived by his second wife, Mildred Schmidt; and daughters, Nancy Schmidt Boulay (son-in-law Charles Boulay) of Port Townsend, WA, Joyce Schmidt (daughter-in-law, Melissa Martin) of Phoenix, AZ, Audrey Schmidt Lara (son-in-law, Frank Lara) of Oregon City, OR, and Carol Schmidt Williams (son-in-law Tony Williams) of Spokane, WA; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held by his family near Diamond Lake, WA.

His family is grateful to the incredible care he received by Hospice of Spokane and his physicians, Dr. Harold Goldberg and Dr. Ward Chow.
