Obituary: Henry, Robert Lee

HENRY, Robert Lee Born in Portland, OR on June 1st, 1943.

He was in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician’s Mate from 1961 to 1967 and served aboard several submarines.

He was nominated by Washington State Senator, Warren G. Magnusen, for admittance to Annapolis Naval Academy, and attended the U.S.

Naval Preparatory School in Bainbridge, Maryland in 1963.

Following his military service, he became a police officer in Walla Walla then went to Spokane where he served from 1967-1996.

He rose through the ranks from Detective to Specialist, followed by Administrative Sergeant of the Patrol and Detective Division and finally as an Instructor and Training Organizer at the Spokane Police Academy.

His goal of becoming an attorney was accomplished while Robert worked on the Spokane Police Department.

He achieved a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Washington University, then his Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University, after which he practiced Civil Law.

Robert was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending time boating, fishing and hunting in the mountains and lakes of Washington with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Sivilla, and his brother, Lary.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his brother John, Linda, the mother of his four children, Shawn, Shannon and Wade Henry and LeAne Austin-Lund.

There are eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ian, Alex, Evan, Anna and Connor Henry, also Scott and Joel Austin, one great-grandson, Edward Paul Austin, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date this year.
