Obituary: Stephens, Sheila Lydia

STEPHENS, Sheila Lydia Sheila Lydia Stephens, beloved wife, sister and aunt passed away the morning of February 24, 2015 from complications related to her long fight against COPD.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Alvar and Erna Nord and her brother Gene Nord.

Sheila is survived by her husband of 49 years, Byron Stephens, her stepson Marvin (Kathy) Appolonie and family; her sister Inez Hastings; nieces: Cindy Cash, Margie (Carl) Nelson, Patty Brown; and her nephews: Larry (Bonnie) Nord and Tom (Carol) Nord and all their families, two more generations of nieces and nephews.

She found deep joy in her role of “auntie” while maintaining special relationships with each of her ‘grand’ and ‘great-grand’ nieces and nephews.

Over the years she loved and was loved by her ‘furry children’ Freddy, Sammie, Yodel and Kenji.

Sheila was born in Spokane and raised in the foothills of Mt.

Spokane.

After graduation from Mead High School in 1961, she had a chance to travel and live in Canada, San Francisco and Hawaii before she and her husband met and settled in the Spokane area.

Careers took them to Bothell, WA and Phoenix, AZ, beginning their retirement in St. George, UT before they came home to Spokane last fall.

Sheila retired after 23 years from Sysco Systems out of Phoenix, AZ, in 2003 as Credit Director, where she left behind many friends.

We all admired her for her strength, giving heart, keen sense of humor and spunky personality.

She was a dynamo in a petite package.

We will all truly miss her presence in our lives.
