App Lets Parents Keep Tabs on Teen Drivers

Jim Gorzelany CTW Features
Big Brother, meet Big Mom and Dad. Available for both anxious parents of freshly licensed drivers and concerned small business owners, a new smartphone app is aimed at helping reduce dangerous driving behavior. Called SafeCell 360, it allows parents and employers to remotely manage and restrict use of mobile phones while a vehicle is in motion to help drivers under their supervision avoid distractions, including blocking calls and text messages. What’s more, the program can be used to gauge (via GPS) how fast teens or workers are driving, and if they are following parental rules or regulatory and corporate policies with regard to their mobile devices while behind the wheel. The app can also be configured to allow use of only approved applications (i.e. navigation) while driving. Available for iOS and Android-based devices via iTunes and Google Play, SafeCell 360 is being offered on a subscription basis at $2.99/month (with an introductory $1.99/month rate through April 5).
