Obituary: Covington-Lampley, Bertha

Age 77

COVINGTON-LAMPLEY, Bertha (Age 77) Bertha passed away May 4th, 2015 at her home in Spokane, WA after a lengthy illness.

She was born January 23, 1938 to Wilson and Clara Covington in Worley, ID.

Bertha was the only daughter with seven brothers.

She grew up in the small town of Worley and graduated high school there.

She furthered her education at North Idaho College, University of Idaho and Gonzaga University.

She was a lifelong educator beginning in the public school system.

She then pursued her passion for working within Native American Communities advocating for Indian children and families teaching about healthy lifestyles and prevention education.

She often worked as a cultural consultant and resource for the local tribes.

The last few years she spent working to further the survival of native language as she was one of the few fluent speakers of the Salish dialect.

Bertha enjoyed spending time with her family, her pets, Spokane Chiefs hockey, horse racing, rodeo, traveling, reading, sewing, attending pow wows and cultural activities.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Lampley; daughters: Lisa Russell (Floyd), Leslie Russell-Arnoux (Terry), and granddaughter Angela Arnoux-Cutler (Thomas); her brothers: Earl-Tacoma, Vern-Worley, Truman-Spokane, Michael-Phoenix, and Raymond-Coulee Dam and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

Bertha is preceded in death by mother Clara 1982, father Wilson 2005, brothers Emery 1997, Leo 1998, and grandson Spenser 1987.

She is forever cherished in the hearts of all her relatives and friends.

She is and always will be dearly missed.
