Obituary: Arndt, Roberta Mae Montgomery
Even at the end of her 92 years, she had a sharp mind and memory.
It was a blessing for her to be visited by family and friends in this peaceful setting for the last weeks of her life.
Born November 10th, 1922 in Spokane, her life began as the daughter of Robert Montgomery and Nettie Engelhardt Montgomery.
She is survived by her two daughters, Devonia Dolan Marrs (Kenneth) and Karen Darrah Walter (Grant); five grandsons, ChĂŠ Laitinen, Kael Laitinen (Kari), Matthew Walter (Tiana), Jonathan Walter (Claire), and Robert Walter (Alex).
She also leaves behind three great-grandsons, Noah and Colton Laitinen and Troy Walter; her brother Roland Carolus and her sister Mabel Rees; her dear friend of 57 years Beryl; many nieces and nephews and her granddog Dixie.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Lorain, Iola and Betty Maude Montgomery, Devonia Grashio, Ilene Tucker and Betty Anderson.
Most of her working life was spent as a medical secretary.
But after retiring, her joy came in taking care of her grandsons and little Jessica Gordon (Cook), and later watching her family grow with three great-grandsons.
She will always be remembered for her love of cooking and baking.
For many years she supplemented her income by creating cakes for all occasions including gorgeous wedding cakes.
She also used her gifts as an artist to inspire her sewing, decorative painting, needlework, and crafting of all sorts.
It was all done to perfection!
A Memorial Service and Mass will be given in her honor at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in the Spokane Valley on Saturday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Spokane or American Cancer Society in her name.
