Obituary: Mcclary, Anita Joan (Payne)

McCLARY, Anita Joan (Payne) Anita Joan McClary (Payne) was born in Elma, Washington on January 15, 1941 the daughter of Clarice Payne (Morgan) and Delvin Payne.

She grew up in the Puget Sound area, graduating from West Seattle High School in 1959.

Anita worked her way through college, attending both Pacific Lutheran University and Western Washington University where she received her four year degree in Education.

Married in 1963 to Douglas McClary, the couple settled in Bremerton, WA, where Anita began teaching at West High School.

Anita gave birth to her only child, Shane in 1964.

The family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1972.

Anita held several jobs in the banking industry and also worked for Cal State University Northridge.

She retired and moved to Spokane, Washington to be close to family and her five grandchildren.

Anita loved to spend time with family at Sunday gatherings.

She will always be remembered for the love in her heart and kindness she expressed to those around her.

Anita believed so very strongly in her Lord, Jesus Christ.

Anita passed away suddenly on February 10, 2015 in Spokane and is survived by her sister Anna Jean Doyle; her nieces Pati and Carol Pfeifer; her son, daughter-in-law Melanee and her grandchildren Connor, Casey, Brendan, Lindsey, and Jack.

A private service was held for Anita at St. Joseph’s Parish in Colbert, WA.

Donations may be made to Spokane County Elder Services (5125 N Market St Spokane, WA 99207) or to Catholic Charities for the tireless work that they do in the community.
