Obituary: Floch, Beverly Joyce

Age 85

FLOCH, Beverly Joyce (Doolittle) 1929 - 2015 Beverly Floch passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, after a weekend surrounded by her four children.

Bev was born in Everett, Washington on June 2, 1929 to parents Merritt Frank Doolittle and Ieleen Carol Doolittle (Sedgewick).

She was a self-proclaimed tomboy, graduating from Everett High School in 1947.

She attended Washington State University (WSU) where she performed as the school’s majorette for four years.

She was selected as a “Spur” (an academic honor) her sophomore year, served as president of her sorority, Kappa Delta, and performed in many school plays.

She was named one of WSU’s outstanding seniors for the class of 1951, graduating with a teaching degree and minor in speech communication.

Beverly met the love of her life, Byron Floch, while attending WSU and the two were married in 1951, just two weeks after graduating from college.

Their 60+ years together were filled with lots of love and laughter.

(Bryon passed away in March 2012.)

While raising four kids, Beverly taught baton twirling to youth in the North Spokane area.

She later renewed her teaching credentials at Whitworth University and for 19 years, was a devoted first grade teacher at Brentwood Grade School in the Mead School District.

In addition to teaching, Bev was an amazing seamstress, making clothing and costumes for her children and grandchildren.

Bev Floch was a beautiful human being inside and out and one of the hardest working, organized people we know.

Her “To Do” list was always a mile long.

Devoted to her family and faith, she was dearly loved by her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children—Debbie Davidson (Jim), Karen Floch, Diane Picha (Dan), Duane Floch (Elizabeth); and six grandchildren—Andrew, Lauren and Regen Picha, McKay Warter, and Hayden and Emerson Floch.

A Celebration of Beverly’s Life will be held on May 17, at 1:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, in Spokane.

In lieu of flowers, Bev requested donations be made to Shriners Hospital or any non-profit dedicated to helping children.
