In brief: Open house set for water resources
The Spokane County Water Resource Center is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
During the event, there will be tours of the facility, complimentary snacks and presentations on a variety of topics including fish and the Missoula floods.

Spokane Scotties to hold tryouts
Spokane Scotties Soccer tryouts are Saturday and Sunday at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.
Tryouts are scheduled by age: 8:30 a.m., high school and U16 players; 10 a.m., U15; 11:30 a.m., U14 and U13; 1 p.m., U12 and U11; and 2:30 p.m. U10 and below.
Players should arrive 15 minutes before the designated tryout time. Each player must have cleats, shin guards, water bottle and a ball.
The tryouts are free. Club dues are $150.

Musical performance to be at Rogers High
Spokane Parks and Recreation’s Therapeutic Recreation Services is staging “Music Around the World” at Rogers High School, 1622 E. Wellesley Ave., at 7 p.m. Friday.
The production features songs from movies, with about 20 people between the ages of 21 and 70 performing.
Admission is a suggested donation of $5, which goes back to Therapeutic Recreation Services. For more information, call (509) 625-6245.
Shade gardening topic of seminar
The Friends of Manito is presenting a free seminar on shade gardening at 10 a.m. May 23 in the Manito Meeting Room east of the Conservatory at 4 W. 21st Ave.
Eva Lusk, a Master Gardener, will talk about plants that do well in shade, particularly those suited to the region’s climate zone. The lecture is open to the public.

Manito apartments will be rededicated
MANITO – Manito Presbyterian Church is holding a rededication ceremony at noon Sunday for its Manito Garden Apartments, 300 E. 30th Ave.
The public is invited to the open house to see improvements for the low-income rental facility that houses 60 residents.
An upgraded dayroom and kitchen, a newly installed garden, and improved entryways were included in the project.
