Washington district track meets begin Friday

The District 8 4A and 3A track meets are today and Friday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Action begins today at 3 with prelims in sprint events and a handful of field events. Finals will be held in the 400-meter relay and 3,200.

The meet resumes Friday at 4 with the balance of the field events and running finals, concluding about 9.

The top eight individuals and top four relays in 4A and 3A advance to the regional meet against Mid-Columbia Conference athletes. The regional meets are May 22-23 at SFCC.

The Central Valley boys and girls went 9-0 in league duals and are favored to win 4A district titles.

In 3A, the Mt. Spokane boys and girls are favored to defend district titles.

• The District 7 2A meet is Friday at West Valley, beginning at 3:30.

The top two individuals and relays advance to regionals, which also will be held at WV on May 22.

• Greater Spokane League athletes broke four league records in final dual meets last week.

The Lewis and Clark girls 400 and 800 relays broke records. The Tigers clocked 48.63 in the 400 and 1:42.68 in the 800. In the same dual, the CV girls were right on the Tigers’ heels in the 400 (48.89) and 800 (1:43.78).

LC’s 400 relay time ranks first overall in the state.

Hannah Reiman of CV broke the triple jump record. Her leap of 38-3 erased the previous mark (38-1 3/4).

Noah Martin of University broke the high jump mark. His jump of 6 feet, 11 inches eclipsed the previous record by a half-inch. Steve Lucas of Mead set the mark in 1983.
