Obituary: Kennaugh, Jacqueline Fay “Jackie”

Age 89

KENNAUGH, Jacqueline Fay “Jackie” Jackie passed away peacefully surrounded by family at age 89.

Jackie loved family gatherings and pets and had a gift for maintaining connections with family and friends.

Born in 1926 in Spokane, Jackie’s birth mother Gertrude Warren died a year later and she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Florence and Bill Puckett, on a ranch near Sanders, Idaho.

Jackie’s life bridged the era from when horses still pulled wagons with purpose to the digital age.

Upon graduation from Plummer High School in 1947, Jackie took a job as a nanny in Moscow where she met the love of her life Jack Kennaugh, whom she married in 1962 in the Moscow Church of God.

During these happy years Jackie worked at the University CafĂŠ, before an unfortunate accident and subsequent heart attack took Jack from her in 1972.

Soon after she moved to Spokane to be near her mother (aunt).

A reoccurring theme in Jackie’s life has been that of caregiver.

She nursed her mother (aunt) back to health after a fall from a horse and again at the end of her life; she cared for children with special needs; as a teenager, she spent a month assisting an aunt laid up with broken ribs from a farming accident.

Jackie had an amazing memory, often asking by name about relations, their children and grandchildren.

She especially enjoyed outings and visits with Linda Bowen and Jerry Moldenhauer, special caregivers and friends for Jackie for 16 years following the death of Jackie’s brother (cousin) Warren Puckett.

Carol Capps, a friend from the Mormon Church which Jackie joined in 1992, also provided care and friendship.

Jackie is survived by nephew Jon Atwood (and wife Faye), nephew Jon Knight (and wife Janet), and niece Julie Koohns (and husband Dale).

A Memorial Service will be held Monday May 18 at 11:00 AM at Spokane Valley Baptist Church, 1222 S. McDonald Rd., Spokane Valley.

In lieu of flowers, please direct gifts to the Women and Children’s Free Restaurant, 1600 N. Monroe, Spokane, WA 99205.
