Obituary: Lausten, Sidney Louis

LAUSTEN, Sidney Louis On Thursday, May 21, 2015, SIDNEY LOUIS LAUSTEN gained his angel wings and flew freely to Heaven.

His 26-month journey from Pancreatic Cancer has ended and he is at peace.

Sid was born on June 30, 1943 in Petaluma, CA, and resided for half his life in Kenwood, CA, that he loved so much.

He was a volunteer Kenwood Fire Fighter and a member of the Kenwood Junior Improvement Club, as well as a youth soccer coach and player.

He married the love of his life, Mary, on September 9, 1964 and they enjoyed fifty wonderful years together.

From their marriage, they had three children, Robert, Kristine and Kerin, who made a loving family.

In 1983, the family moved to the Spokane, WA area where Sid became employed by Bayliner Marine, then on to the Boeing Company/Triumph Composite Systems.

He retired in 2005.

Sid was a “gentleman farmer” on their small plot of land in Rockford, WA for ten years, after which the family moved to Nine Mile Falls, WA, where he resided until the time of his death.

Woodcarving and gardening were his favorite pastimes.

Sid was preceded in death by his father Sidney Lausten, Sr.; mother Ruby Lausten; and brother James Lausten.

He is survived by his wife Mary at their home; his son Robert Lausten of Spokane, WA; daughter Kristine (Dan) Hoss of Nine Mile Falls, WA and daughter Kerin (Sean) Pheabus of Spokane, WA.

In addition, he is survived by his five amazing grandchildren, David Hoss of Bellingham, WA, Andrew Lausten of Spokane, WA , Maci, Addison and Molly Pheabus of Spokane, WA; brother-in-law Edward (Sharon) Harper of Ocean Shores, WA; sister-in-law Barbara Duval of Palmetto, FL, sister-in-law Joan (Skinner) Anderson of Meridian, ID; nephew Edward Harper of Spokane, WA; niece Lisa (Brian) Burke, Spokane, WA; great-nephew Steven (Kayla) Burke; great-niece Haley Burke of Spokane, WA.

Sid was a very humble, caring and giving man, always one to worry about everyone else, instead of himself.

He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Special thanks go to Cancer Care Northwest with Dr. Saritha Thumma and Dr. Mariam Parvis, as well as all their staffs who treated Sid as a friend and gave him special care and love.

The staff at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital and the staff at Hospice House of Spokane, Northside also treated him as if he were special.

To all of those, we give our sincere thanks.
