Obituary: Hoepfer, Norman Edward

Age 61

HOEPFER, Norman Edward April 19, 1954 - October 30, 2015 After a long illness, Norm passed away on October 30, 2015, surrounded by family and friends.

Norm was born on April 19, 1954 to Norman D. and Svea A. Hoepfer in Wallace, Idaho.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing throughout his life.

Norm developed his passion for the outdooors at a very young age as he grew up on the Pend O’Reille River.

Countless memories and lifelong friendships were built there.

He grew up in a loving Scandinavian home with younger siblings Karen and Jake.

To his family, he was known as “Eddie”.

Norm grew up with deep family ties to many aunts, uncles and cousins.

When he was born, his father was in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Korea.

His grandfather, Ike, taught him lifelong morals, as well as the Swedish language.

His grandmother, Lydia Hoepfer, taught him compassion, patience and his love for the Lord.

Norm worked from 1972 to 1987 for Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood.

After his tenure with Kaiser, he worked in the fiber-optic and gas line construction industry, spending his last 15 years working for MBF as a pipeline inspector.

Many lifelong friends were made along Norm’s long trek in the pipeline business.

He had deep devotion for his job, often sacrificing his personal leisure time.

Norm never missed Sunday football, and every game was treated like a national holiday!

He was a Green Bay Packers fan.

He placed many bets with wonderful friends in Texas; he won some and lost lots!

Numerous thanks and gratitude cannot be measured as Norm spent his last ten years with his beloved fiance’, Barbara Farnell.

He and Barbara covered many miles together and took numerous trips, prior to settling down in their lifelong home in the Spokane Valley.

Their family was complete with their beloved dog, Buckwheat.

Norm is survived by: his fiance’, Barbara Farnell, his mother Svea A. Hoepfer-Rolph; sister, Karen (Richard) Ray; brother Jake Hoepfer; uncle, Ben (Nina) Palo of Chubback, ID; nephew, William Ray of Las Vegas, Nevada; niece, Kelly (Steven) Anderson, a great niece and nephew, all of Spokane; and Gwen Hoepfer.

Survivors also include his lifelong friends, Nick Abariotes, Jared Cooper, and Joe and Lola Havens of Houston, Texas.

Norm was preceded in death by his father, Norman D. Hoepfer in 2001 and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Norm’s life will be hosted by Nick and Barbara at O’Doherty’s Irish Pub and Grill, 11723 E. Sprague Avenue at 5:30 pm on Friday, November 13, 2015.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
