Masonry workshop offered

A free workshop on maintaining masonry in old buildings is being offered to the public on Oct. 8 and 9.

Mark Liebman, an expert in the field of investigative restoration and a senior forensic investigator for CASE Forensics, will lead the workshop in Council Chambers at Spokane City Hall.

The first part of the workshop is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Liebman will discuss heritage building construction; materials that were used; and repair methods using time-tested techniques.

He will also “explore the means and methods of construction of traditional masonry and wooden structures, the causes of structural and material deterioration; and how to best address and repair the resultant damage,” according to a news release from the city-county Historic Preservation Office.

The following day, Liebman will give an on-site presentation at the Genesee building downtown; that session is already full.

To sign up for the workshop, go to historicspokane.org/masonry-workshop.

For more information about the workshop contact Megan Duvall at mduvall@spokanecity.org or (509) 625-6543.

The workshop is a joint presentation of the preservation office, Spokane Preservation Advocates and the Spokane chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
