Spokane Valley structure fires investigated as arson
A fire Monday night burned three empty mobile structures behind the Zip’s Drive-In on East Sprague Avenue in Spokane Valley.
The fire just east of Sullivan Road is being investigated as an arson, Spokane Fire Department spokeswoman Melanie Rose said.
The unoccupied structures were boarded up and stored in a lot behind the Zip’s. One was a total loss in the fire, and two others were badly burned. Three other structures in the cluster were unharmed, Rose said.
Rose said they belonged to The Home Boys, a business next door. One appeared to be a portable classroom and another looked like a temporary business office, she said.
Several people at Zip’s reported the fire around 6:20 p.m. Monday, Rose said. Fire investigators and a crew were on scene Tuesday, but Rose said there was no obvious cause of the fire yet.
“The thing about these types of fires is they burn really hot and really fast,” she said, referring to fires in mobile structures.
No one is reported to have been injured.
