Domestic violence suspect arrested after South Hill search
Police located a domestic violence suspect on Spokane’s South Hill Thursday afternoon after an intense search.
Michael R. Bird, 55, is a suspect in a felony domestic violence assault that occurred on Oct. 18. The victim called police Thursday morning to report seeing Bird near a bus stop at 53rd Avenue and Regal Street and said she believed he was wearing body armor and might be armed.
Several domestic violence detectives searched the area looking for Bird without success, said Spokane Police Department spokesman Cpl. Jordan Ferguson. Thursday afternoon a patrol officer spotted Bird on 44th Avenue and police set up a perimeter around the area. A police K-9 helped track Bird, who was arrested shortly after 4 p.m., Ferguson said.
Bird was not armed or wearing body armor when he was arrested. However, it’s possible that he’d had the items earlier in the day when he was first spotted and left them somewhere before he was located, Ferguson said.
