Eastern Washington students make National Merit Scholar semifinals
Several students from across Eastern Washington were recently named semifinalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students will continue to compete for 7,400 scholarships worth more than $32 million.
The semifinalists are: Shogo Starr (Cheney High School), Andrew Hoover (Mt. Spokane High School), Jeremy Ryan (Medical Lake High School), Juyun Phang (Gonzaga Preparatory School), Brendon Davis and Kyle Thiessen (both of Lewis and Clark High School), Jacob Ross and Maggie Young (both of Central Valley High School) and Gaelyn Prior (East Valley High School),
St. George’s ‘This Island’ opens Sept. 18
Saint George’s School’s production of “Once on This Island,” a musical following the story of a young aristocrat named Timoune, which includes a tropical-themed dinner or dessert before the show, opens Sept. 18.
“Once on This Island” stars Caroline Hammett as Timoune, Malinda Wagstaff as Asaka (Goddess of the Earth, Mickey Zhang as Agwe (God of Water), Anna Nowland as Erzulie (Goddess of Love), Truman Harris as Papa Ge (God of Death), Hunter Hyde as Ton Ton Julian, Allison Milbrath as Mama Euralie, Josias Michalko as Daniel Beauxhomme, Susie Jones as Andrea Devereaux, Ryan Hayes as Armand and third-grader Ashley Peone as Little Timoune.
Tickets are $11.50 for the dinner shows and $6.50 for the matinee and are available online at http://sgsisland.eventbrite.com. Tickets at the door, if available, are $13/dinner; $8/matinee by check or cash only. Seating is limited.
All performances will be held in the school’s Dragon Room, located at 2929 W. Waikiki Road. Performances are Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. (dinner at 6:30 p.m.); and Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. (dessert at 1:45 p.m.) and 7 p.m. (dinner at 6:30 p.m.).
