Obituary: Camp, Lester C.
Les was born October 14, 1924 in Washtucna, WA to Alexis Clifford Camp and Bessie Brown Latimer shortly thereafter moving to the family farm located near Spangle, WA in 1925.
Les attended school in Cheney, WA until his senior year when he was accepted into the U.S. Army on August 14, 1943 as a volunteer.
On April 9, 1945 he landed on Okinawa under heavy gun fire as a member of the RyuKyus campaign and served his country honorably until April 6, 1946.
In 1956 Les married Kathleen Dau Horn a widow with two small children, Dan and Linda.
A son Les II was born in 1958.
They had a happy wonderful life farming in Oakesdale until Kathleen’s death in 2005.
Besides traveling (Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Mexico and most U.S. states) with Kathleen he had many interests which included fish- ing, boating, beer and wine making, baking bread, grinding horse- radish, making applesauce and apple butter and crafting carving boards and treasure chests for his grandchildren.
He was a member of The American Legion, BPO Elks, USA, Oakesdale Volunteer Fire Department, Amateur Trapshooting Association, WOCO School of Diving, Community Presbyterian Church of Oakesdale and served on the Oakesdale school board.
Mr. Camp is survived by son, Lester (Debbie) C. Camp II of Cheney, WA.
Daughter Linda Horn (Bob Hanson) of Westwood, KS.
Daughter-in-law Susan Horn, Chino, CA.
Grandchildren Erica (Jerry) Bloomquist, Noelle Novak, Alexis (Westin) Joy, Ben (Sarah Pallaria) Camp and Katherine Camp.
Great-grand- children, Ryan Bloomquist, Claire, Logan and Mason Novak and Quinn Joy.
Brother and sister-in-law, Dick and MaryEllen Camp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen and son, Daniel Ray Horn.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Spokane Shriner’s Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14 at the Oakesdale Community Presbyterian Church followed by burial next to his wife in the Oakesdale Cemetery.
