Obituary: Zimmerman, Charles Douglas Jr.

Age 92

ZIMMERMAN, Charles Douglas Jr. March 4, 1923- September 2, 2013 Doug Zimmerman age 92, passed away at home with his family.

He was born in Oregon and grew up on a small farm northwest of Portland.

In 1943 he en- listed in the Navy and ended up in a Hawaiian pineapple field doing Radio Intelligence.

After the war he returned to Portland and began a long career as a carpenter.

He met and married the love of his life Laverne Grady.

They built a house together and raised two sons.

Doug loved the outdoors.

Camping, hunting, and fishing were some of his favorite pastimes, and he almost never missed one of his son’s sporting events.

Doug and Laverne enjoyed 60 years of marriage and spent their retirement mostly in Central Oregon before moving to Spokane in 2009.

Doug was preceded in death by his sister Doris Grindstaff of Prineville; his wife Laverne and his son Bryan Zimmerman of Boise.

He is survived by his sister Ida Dubuar of Pittsburgh; his son Randy Zimmerman of Spokane; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed.
