Obituary: Gallagher, Marcella Sophia

Age 97

GALLAGHER, Marcella Sophia December 9, 1917- September 21, 2015 Our dear mother went peacefully to be with the Lord on September 21, 2015.

She was born and raised on a farm in Minnesota.

Her surviving daughters are Marie Sanders (Leonard) of Georgia, Donna Sorte (Eric) of Spokane Valley, and Ellen Platt (Michael) of Pennsylvania.

She has a surviving brother, Wilbur Bjerke of Spokane, and a sister Katherine Hoyt of Idaho.

She has 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents Edwin and Katherine Bjerke, son Steven Oulman of Spokane, Matthew Oulman of Moscow, Idaho, and Russell Gallagher of Pennsylvania.

Three brothers, Lester, Harold, and Kermit and two sisters, Evelyn Thomas and Arlus Marron.

She moved to Spokane in 1963, worked as a waitress at Casey’s Restaurant on Monroe Street from 1963 to 1989.

She was a hardworking single mom, always had a smile for you.

She was always taking pictures (some good-some not so good) and had many filled photo albums.

Her favorite pictures were sunsets.

She loved nature scenes and little birds.

So many of our favorite memories are from being at Mom’s with our families, and most pictures were taken at Mom’s.

She enjoyed going dancing and playing bingo at the Moose Club.

She loved her coffee as any good Norwegian would.

The Bjerke get-togethers were her favorite-to talk about old times.

Thank you Horizon Hospice for your excellent care, and Valley Pines Adult Home, where she lived for seven years.

A special shout out to Kneeley and Sandra-you are the best!

A gathering will be held at Hennessey’s Funeral Home at 1315 North Pines on September 28 at 9:30 AM for those who want to visit with family.

The service will follow at 11:00 AM to celebrate Marcella’s life.
