Weekend weather

A stretch of warm weather will kick off the first several days of autumn with highs reaching the 70s under partly sunny to mostly sunny skies.

The warmest day should be on Thursday, when highs in Spokane may approach 80 degrees. The forecast is for 78 to 79 degrees in urban parts of Spokane on Thursday.

The warm weather continues on Friday with highs in the lower 70s under partly sunny skies.

A weak low-pressure system is due over the region later on Friday, bringing a slight chance of showers through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A second weak wave of low pressure should arrive Saturday night and Sunday.

Gusty winds are possible near any shower clouds, forecasters said.

Temperatures during the weekend will be close to normal for late September in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. Highs on Friday through Sunday should be in the lower 70s. Lows will mostly be in the 40s.

The sunny and warm weather should continue through Tuesday.

Sandpoint should be a few degrees cooler. The sun will shine between clouds. However, Saturday is expected to be cloudy as a result of the weak low-pressure systems.

In the mountains of North Idaho, temperatures will reach the lower 60s Thursday before dropping back to the 50s for the remainder of the weekend. Clouds and chances of showers will linger around the mountains through the weekend.

Normal temperatures for Spokane this time of year are 70 degrees for highs and 45 degrees for lows.
