Carjacking leads to chase, crash in Seattle’s I-90 tunnel

Associated Press

SEATTLE – An early morning carjacking led to a high-speed chase and a crash in the Interstate 90 tunnel that closed eastbound lanes for hours.

KOMO-TV reported that it all started at about 4 a.m. Tuesday when a family was unloading their car on Lakeside Avenue in Seattle. A man approached them and implied that he had a gun and stole their car.

Police say an officer spotted the stolen car speeding east on I-90 and gave chase. The suspect crashed inside the tunnel on Mercer Island and was taken into custody.

Eastbound lanes were closed during the investigation and traffic was diverted to express lanes.
