OHNEMUS, Blanche Evalea “Lee”
(Age 94)

Died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Lee was born March 2, 1922 in Dupree, South Dakota.

She graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa in 1944 and joined the Air Force as a nurse in 1951.

Lee retired from the AF in the rank of Major but was later promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the reserves.

She spent most of her retired life in Spokane and only recently moved to Coeur d’Alene to be near family.


Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Ferman and Marie Ohnemus; three sisters, Mary Louise Sharpe, Maxine Hubbard, and Maye Ohnemus; and two brothers, Bob Ohnemus and Jim Ohnemus.

Survivors include her loving sister-in-law Edna “Eddie” Ohnemus and several nieces and nephews.


Lee was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church so her memorial service is planned for April 18, 2016 at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 219 E. Rockwood Blvd, Spokane, WA.

Arrangements are being made to have Lee’s cremated remains inurned in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will receive full Military Honors.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spokane or Hospice of North Idaho.
