Weekend weather: Low pressure brings temperature drop and winds

This week’s warm weather is going to slip away as two low-pressure systems arrive over the Inland Northwest, potentially churning the region’s lakes this weekend

Southwest winds are likely to kick up before dawn on Saturday and then increase on Saturday afternoon.

Southwest wind gusts could reach 28-31 mph at the favored trout lakes southwest of Spokane.

The weekend will start out on Thursday with weather similar to the start of the week, but a pair of low pressure areas arriving by Friday should change conditions markedly for the trout-season opener on Saturday.

The result will be a day-to-day drop in temperatures and increasing clouds with showers possible on Friday through Sunday.

A high of 81 is expected in Spokane on Thursday as the summer-like weather this week lingers.

Spokane reached 80 degrees for the first time this season on Tuesday. That was just 1 degree shy of the daily high temperature record for April 19.

A layer of warm air at mountain elevations was expected to keep stream flows at high levels, but that layer is expected to drift eastward by Friday.

Thunderstorms are possible Friday night.

Shower chances are expected to be around 40 percent on Friday night and Saturday, and 30 percent Sunday.

High temperatures should go from the upper 70s and lower 80s on Thursday to the middle 70s on Friday and to the lower 60s on Saturday and Sunday.

Some locales could dip to the upper 50s by Sunday, which is the normal high for this time of year.

Lows will go from the middle 50s Thursday night back down to the 40s through the weekend.
