Winners selected

The Millwood Farmers Market celebrated the upcoming market season with a poster contest for local children.

Natalie Lohstroh, 8, who’s in third grade at Pasadena Park Elementary, was the first-place winner. She missed the prize ceremony on Friday but told farmers market manager Teri King that she wanted to use “bright colors and big letters so people can see the poster.”

Ari Albert, 10 and a fifth-grader at Orchard Center, won second place with a poster showing many different fruits and vegetables.

Albert said she likes going to the market and she’s going to spend the $25 prize money on art supplies.

Marcelina Mendez, 10 and a fourth-grader at Ness Elementary School, won third place.

King said the farmers market uses the poster designs to print fliers and postcards.

The market opens May 18. Vendors will set up along East Dalton Avenue between Marguerite and Hutchinson roads.

King has been the market manager for three years and she’s hoping for 25 vendors this year.

“We have vendors with crafts, veggies, plant starts and honey,” King said. “We try to have a little bit of everything.”
