Obituary: Talley, Mary Theresa
Age 94
TALLEY,
Mary Theresa
Mary Talley died peace-fully on April 18, 2016 in her apartment at Brookdale North in Spokane, WA with members of her family at her side.
Mary was born on November 6, 1921 in Missoula, MT.
During World War II, she served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater where she received a Bronze Star for combat action.
After the war, Mary and Arthur L. Talley were married and moved to Spokane, WA.
They were married for 66 years before Art’s death in 2011.
In her leisure, Mary enjoyed bowling, crocheting, tending her roses, reading courtroom mysteries, huckleberry picking, fishing, jigsaw puzzles, and swimming at the local Y.
She was a long-time member of the guild at St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Mary will be remembered for, among many things, her huckleberry pies, Husband’s cake, and the bounty of the homemade cookies in her ever-ready cookie jar.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Leslie; her son, Mike and his daughter, Juliet Kirkpatrick (Kalon) and children, Sydney, Courtney, and Lane; and her son, Ken (Mary Ellen) and their children, Matthew and Rebecca (Chad) Brunskill and their children, Cayden, Taylor, and Aubrey Kate.
She is also survived by former daughters-in-law, Geneva Marshall and Christy Talley.
The family is grateful to the staff and residents at Brookdale North retirement community where Mary lived for the last six years.
The care and concern they showed Mary and her family during her final illness is most appreciated.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org) or the YMCA of Inland Northwest (www.ymcaspokane.org).
