Consult the Council, Condon

Craig Meidl seems to be a good choice for Spokane’s new chief of police. However, I have to wonder why he didn’t apply for the position in the first place, and secondly, why is Mayor Condon seemingly not willing to have the City Council be part of the selection process? After all, they are an integral part of city government, wouldn’t you say?

Having a strong mayor form of city government is OK, I guess, but it doesn’t give the mayor the right to act in a dictatorial manner. Given the debacle in Condon’s choosing of Straub as our former police chief, I’d think Condon would want to have the city council behind him on this current selection.
