Education Notebook: Mattress Firm collecting school supplies for foster kids

To help local foster kids prepare for school, Mattress Firm is hosting a school supply drive Thursday through Sept. 4.

Donations of new school supplies are being collected at all Mattress Firm stores. Requested items include backpacks, three-ring binders, multisubject notebooks, and packs of pens and pencils.

Cheney students place in FBLA nationals

Twenty-three Cheney High School Future Business Leaders of America students recently competed at the FBLA National Business Leadership conference, which was in Atlanta, with seven students placing in the top 10 in the nation in their respective events.

Kiersten Gaspar placed fifth in digital video production; Matt Dupler placed sixth in desktop application programming; Rachel Suominen placed 10th in FBLA principles and procedures; Megumi Call placed fifth in Microsoft Office Specialist Excel; and Hannah Blazon, Connor Gerstenkorn and Abby Blazon placed seventh in e-business.
