Body of Newman Lake boater recovered
Tue., Aug. 9, 2016
Authorities spent most of the day Tuesday searching for man who went missing Monday night after his boat overturned on Newman Lake.
His body was recovered in the same area where he was last seen, in the northwest corner of the lake near some lily pads, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Mark Gregory. The water was about 10 feet deep and searchers struggled with low visibility.
“It was extremely difficult to see underwater,” Gregory said.
The man was last seen around 10 p.m. Monday, when his 8-foot aluminum boat flipped over. Another man who was in the boat swam to shore and called 911. Neither was wearing a life vest.
The man will be identified by the Medical Examiner after an autopsy is completed.
