Education Notebook: Spokane streaming school concerts

Spokane Public Schools will stream the John R. Rogers High School Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at www.spokane schools.org/stories.

Cheney High band brings home awards

The Cheney High School marching band and color guard recently closed a successful season, winning several awards at regional competitions for the show “Syzygy,” which depicted the lineup of three celestial bodies during the course of a lunar eclipse.

The 80 musicians and color guard members received the following awards: first place, best auxiliary and best general effect during the preliminary stage of the Pacific NW Marching Band Championship, AA Division, and second place during the finals stage of the same competition; and first place, best percussion performance, best visual performance and best color guard performance during the preliminary stage of the Washington State University Marching Band Championships, AA Division, and best overall color guard performance and second place overall during the finals stage of the same competition.

Students wrapping up jumping-jack event

Snowdon Elementary School students are almost finished with a jumping-jack challenge, given to them by Kids Magazine, Shriners Hospitals For Children and Mt. Spokane.

From Dec. 5 through Friday, staff and students completed 25 jumping jacks with Principal Shawna Fraser each day, adding up to 100,000 jumping jacks.

At the end of the challenge, two Snowdon students will win prizes.

Spokane Valley High donates to nonprofits

Spokane Valley High School students and staff recently donated proceeds from a three-monthlong fundraiser to Spokane Guilds’ School, Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
