Deputy revived unresponsive baby

A Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputy may have saved the life of a 2-month-old baby.

Trainee Deputy Derek McNall was on patrol with Deputy Clay Hilton, around 1 a.m. on Jan. 20 when they received a call about a newborn not breathing in the 12900 block of East Mansfield. The deputies were nearby and arrived on the scene before medics, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Mark Gregory.

They found a baby who was not breathing and blue in the face. McNall performed CPR and the baby began breathing and crying. The parents said the baby had choked while being fed, Gregory said.

The parent, who did not want to be identified, are grateful for McNall’s actions, Gregory said.
