Rogers edges Mt. Spokane in district elimination game
K.J. Hassett scored 27 points and made two free throws with 45 seconds left in overtime and Rogers held on to beat Mt. Spokane 59-57 in a District 8 3A elimination game Tuesday at Rogers.
Denzel Brantley added 14 points for the Pirates, who fought back after falling behind by eight points in the first quarter. Mt. Spokane’s Ben Stevens scored 12, Sam Stiles had 11 and Caleb Wendle added 10.
Rogers made 16 of 17 free throws while Mt. Spokane (3-18) was 7 of 11 from the line.
The win earned the Pirates (5-17) a spot in the subregional tournament. They’ll play at Shadle Park in the district title game on Friday to determine seeding.
District 8 4A
University 60, Ferris 51: Spencer Matt made 7 of 12 shots, 9 of 11 free throws and scored 26 points as the Titans (10-11) erased an eight-point first-quarter deficit and beat the cold-shooting Saxons (10-11) in a loser-out game at Ferris.
Elijah Ramirez added 13 points and eight assists for University, which held Ferris to 23 percent shooting (6 of 26) after halftime. Mike Ervin led Ferris with 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Saxons will play Thursday at Gonzaga Prep.
District 7 1B
Wellpinit 69, Curlew 57: Brandon Flett scored 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting and added 15 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks and the Redskins (16-4) established control early in a first-round win over the visiting Cougars (11-7). Jacob Brown added 12 points and Cedric Bowen chipped in 10 for Wellpinit, which led 34-20 at halftime. Curlew’s Gunner Brown and Daniel Tresham scored 15 apiece.
The Redskins will play Republic in the semifinals and Curlew will play Valley Christian in a loser-out game. Both games are Saturday in Deer Park.
Republic 54, Valley Christian 40: Adrian McCarthy poured in 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting and the Tigers (18-3) topped the visiting Panthers (6-14). Taylor Campbell added 13 points for Republic. Valley’s Christian’s Chase Strunk made five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 69, Cusick 32: Payton Nielsen had 16 points and seven rebounds and Dallas Isaak chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Warriors (21-0) eased past the Panthers (7-11) in Coulee City. Maguire Isaak added 13 points for ACH, which led by 25 at the half.
The Warriors will play Selkirk in the semifinals and Cusick will play Odessa-Harrington in a loser-out game. Both games are Saturday in Deer Park.
Selkirk 61, Odessa-Harrington 35: Cole Dawson scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the decisive third quarter and Jacob Couch added 19 to lead the Rangers (16-5) past the Titans (4-17) in Ione. Dawson and Couch also pulled down 10 rebounds apiece for Selkirk, which outscored Odessa-Harrington 16-4 in the third. Odessa-Harrington’s Colton Hunt scored 12.
Northeast A
Medical Lake 59, Riverside 30: Jaelon Stith scored 18 points and the Cardinals (15-5, 11-3) extended their winning streak to seven games with a win over the Rams (3-16, 2-12) in a regular-season finale in Riverside. Jacob Harms led the Rams with 14 points.
Lakeside 90, Colville 33: Cameron Gay made five 3-pointers and finished with 28 points and eight assists as the Eagles (15-5, 11-3) overwhelmed the Indians (6-14, 4-10) in Nine Mile Falls. Gunnar Swannack added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Lakeside.
Freeman 78, Deer Park 46: Ryan Maine scored 22 points, Nate Jacobus added 15 and the league-champion Scotties (17-3, 13-1) routed the host Stags (4-16, 3-11). Deer Park’s Dante Myers scored 16 and Connor Markham added 15.
Newport 64, Chewelah 47: Kyler Zorica scored 19 points and Robert Owen added 12 as the Grizzlies (13-7, 8-6) defeated the host Cougars (5-15, 4-10). Chewelah’s Chayse Frizzel scored 19.
Intermountain
Timberlake 55, Priest River 47: Brayden Menti scored 19 points and Daniel Smith added 13 as the Tigers topped the Spartans at Spirit Lake. Priest River’s Hunter Hartwig made three 3-pointers and scored 14 points.
Kellogg 57, Bonners Ferry 41: Toby Colburn had 22 points and 15 rebounds and the Wildcats defeated the visiting Badgers. Bonners Ferry’s Caleb Blackmore scored 18.
North Star
Wallace 72, Lakeside 57: Freshman Zack Welch scored 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting to guide the Miners past the Knights in Plummer. Wallace trailed by five at hafltime, but outscored Lakeside 47-27 in the second half.
Nonleague
Lake City 57, Sandpoint 43: Kenny Louie-McGee scored 17 points and Duncan Butler added nine points and eight rebounds as the Timberwolves (6-13) used a hot start to get past the host Bulldogs (5-13). Sandpoint’s Davan Norris scored 20.
