Obituary: Laakso, Glen

Age 83

LAAKSO, Glen

Glen Laakso passed peacefully at his home in Burlington, Washington on February 3, 2016.

Glen was born in Rockford Washington and after a stint in the Navy, Glen spent the majority of his life in Spokane where he worked as a supply driver.

Glen traveled the world, dove the oceans, piloted the skies, collected rare treasures, battled Marlin in Cabo, rode a Harley, captained a boat through icebergs in Alaska, raced horses, talked to parrots, owned a tavern, raised tropical fish, remodeled houses, was a master at cards, created magic in his gardens, was a great father figure/ friend/mentor to many, and lived life to it’s fullest potential.

He loved animals and animals loved him (in the San Juans you could spot him on his porch feeding the birds, chasing the otters, and feeding and petting his deer).

He loved the San Juan Islands where he spent many summers and will rest for eternity.

Glen was an inspiration to many and will be missed by us lucky few who got to share in some of his adventures.
He is survived by his loving family Nikki Laakso - daughter, Gary Laakso - son and his wife Neta Westerfield, Rachel Peterson - granddaughter, Jordan Varga - granddaughter, Joy Anderson - sister, Jan Robbins - daughter(like), Debbie Mally - daughter, Justin Alpringer - grandson, numerous nieces, nephews and great friends, and his great-grandson T.J. Bellows who held a special place in his heart.

He will be always be fondly remembered by everyone who had the good fortune to know him.

Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
