Trail reopened, river closed near Sullivan Bridge

Staff report

The Centennial Trail has reopened below the Sullivan Bridge in Spokane Valley.

Construction on the bridge forced the trail to be moved closer to the river to allow proper clearance.

The Spokane River below the bridge remains closed.

A combination of high water levels and low clearance because of construction make it dangerous to paddle below the bridge.

Kayakers must use a mandatory takeout point on the north side of the river, but may carry their craft across Sullivan Road and relaunch downstream from the bridge.

The river will be closed in that spot until further notice.
