Area boys basketball: Pullman eliminates West Valley
Jared Anderson scored 15 points, Jake Cillay added 10 points and 10 rebounds and Pullman erased a 10-point halftime deficit and beat West Valley in a District 7 2A elimination game Friday night in Pullman.
The Greyhounds outscored the Eagles 14-7 in the third quarter and 22-12 in the fourth to complete the comeback.
Pullman’s William Pitzer and James Miles added nine points apiece. The Greyhounds were 16 of 23 from the free-throw line while the Eagles (11-11) were 0 for 2.
West Valley’s Johnny Sage made 4 of 6 3-pointers and scored 16 points and Austin Yoakum added 10 points.
Pullman (19-3) will play at Clarkston on Wednesday to determine seeding to the crossover tournament. The Greyhounds beat the Bantams 68-66 on Jan. 30. It was Clarkston’s only loss of the season.
District 7 1A
Medical Lake 61, Chewelah 44: Cory Wagner hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 27 points to help send the Cardinals (16-6) past the Cougars (5-16) in a loser-out game at Medical Lake.
Donte Brown added 10 assists and eight rebounds for Medical Lake, which outscored Chewelah 23-6 in the opening quarter. The Cougars’ Chayse Frizzel scored 13.
The third-seeded Cardinals advance to play No. 2 Lakeside Tuesday at West Valley.
Newport 62, Colville 48: Danny Bradbury had 20 points and four steals and Ty McDaniel added 14 points and nine rebounds as the Grizzlies (14-7) used a hot start to get past the Indians (6-15) in a loser-out game in Newport.
Kyler Zorica added 10 points for Newport, which opened the game on a 19-6 run. Colville’s Alberto Cisneros and Tanner Sandaine combined for 26 points.
No. 4 Newport will play top-seeded Freeman Tuesday at West Valley.
District 7 2B
Northwest Christian 53, St. George’s 30: Asher Cox scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and added 10 rebounds as the Crusaders (21-2) topped the Dragons (16-8) in the title game at West Valley.
Ryan Ricks added 16 points for Northwest Christian, which earned the top seed to the subregional tournament. Erik Farias scored 11 for St. George’s, which is the No. 2 seed.
Liberty 66, Davenport 64: Chase Burnham poured in 29 points and the Lancers (21-3) overcame a six-point halftime deficit and beat the Gorillas (12-12) at West Valley.
Liberty’s Kendall Coppersmith made a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left to put the Lancers ahead 66-64. Davenport had several chances to tie or win but couldn’t convert.
Nathan Hopkins scored 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting for Davenport. Liberty earned the No. 3 seed to the subregional tournament and Davenport is the No. 4 seed.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 68, Springdale 41: Wyatt Roettger made 5 of 6 3-pointers and scored 24 points to help lead the Broncos (14-10) past the Chargers (13-11) in a loser-out game at West Valley. LRS, which made 12 3-pointers, claimed the fifth and final seed to the subregional tournament. Springdale’s John Lynch scored 14.
Inland Empire 5A
Lewiston 74, Post Falls 64: Trystan Bradley scored 29 points, Braeden Wilson added 23 and the Bengals overcame Max McCullough’s big night in a win over the Trojans in Lewiston.
McCullough scored 38 points for Post Falls but the Trojans were outscored by 15 points in the second half.
Lewiston, Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene finished in a three-way tie atop the league standings. A statistical-tiebreaker system gave Lewiston the No. 1 seed to the regional tournament. Coeur d’Alene is No. 2, Post Falls No. 3 and Lake City No. 4.
Nonleague
Coeur d’Alene 68, Moscow 40: Joey Naccarato scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help the Vikings (16-4) top the visiting Bears in a regular-season finale. Glenn Gosse led Moscow with 16 points.
