Four Corners: Zags go for sweep against Pacific

Coming up: Thursday vs. Pacific, 6 p.m., KHQ/Root; Saturday vs. Saint Mary’s, 7, ESPN2

Outlook: Gonzaga goes for a season sweep against Pacific after pulling away for a 71-61 victory in Stockton less than a month ago. GU trailed by five points roughly 5 minutes into the second half before a decisive 25-8 run. Kyle Wiltjer hit numerous key shots and finished with 23 points. Domantas Sabonis added 12 points and 20 rebounds and Eric McClellan chipped in 19 points. The Tigers have won only one of their last six games but it was a big one, knocking off BYU 77-72 in Provo. Pacific, which led Saint Mary’s by seven with 4 minutes left before falling, has eight losses by five points or less. Senior guard Alec Kobre, a 43-percent 3-point shooter who scored 20 points against Gonzaga, has scored in double figures in eight straight games.

Wiltjer moves on

Kyle Wiltjer, one of the best shooters and scorers in program history, is coming off a rough 2-of-17 effort against SMU.

“The good thing about basketball is there’s always another game, always another practice,” he said. “Getting in the gym (Monday) or even when we got back, just flushing out your system and moving on from it.”

Added coach Mark Few: “I think that was just an aberration. He’s made so many big shots, unbelievable shots and unbelievable plays that everybody just becomes accustomed to it. It’s probably not fair. We probably need to take a step back and marvel at what he’s been able to do.”

Gonzaga leaders

Scoring: Kyle Wiltjer, 21.1
