Obituary: Christensen, Evelyn Ethel

Age 95

CHRISTENSEN, Evelyn Ethel

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called Evelyn home February 17, 2016 and she has left her life to enter into Communion with the Lord.

On November 7, 1920, Evelyn (Gump) Christensen was welcomed by her parents, Clark and Ethel (Olson) Gump who lived within the beautiful rolling wheat fields of the Palouse in Garfield, WA.

She was the oldest of the three children.

In 1926, the family moved to the Farmington, WA area.

Evelyn attended the one-room Belshaw Grade School.

She graduated with the Class of 1939 from Farmington High School; and later attended Northwestern Business College in Spokane.
On July 22, 1941, she and Roy Christensen were married at the family farm near Farmington.

For a short time they lived in Spokane, and then moved to Tacoma, WA during WWII.

After the war ended, they returned to Spokane and moved to Peone Prairie where they bought their farm and made their home of 58 years.

Evelyn was a homemaker, helped on the farm, and worked part-time at the Whitworth College Post Office, and also worked as a Supervisor/Manager for Live Oaks Sales.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, swimming, traveling, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

In 1956, she became an active member of Whitworth Presbyterian Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy, in 1998; her mother and father; her sister, Luella Gump; and her brother, Donald Gump.

Evelyn’s sight started failing in October 2003.

As a result, she made the decision to move to Fairwood Retirement Village in Spokane.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Wayne and his wife, Sandy Christensen; three grandsons, Scott Smith, Jess and his wife Brandi, and Craig and his wife Amanda; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at Whitworth Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Rd., Spokane, WA 99218 on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 2:00pm.
