“Gerry”
Gerald Bruce Allert, of Sprague WA, died peace- fully on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, at the age of 70.
Gerry was born on November 18, 1945 in Pasco, WA, the son of Marjorie and Richard Allert and was a loving brother to Mitchell and Leslie.
He grew up on the family farm in Benge, WA, and in 1955, the family moved to Ritzville.
He graduated from Ritzville High School, class of 1963.
He then attended and graduated from Oregon State University in 1973.
In 1963, he married Edlu Thom and had three children, Brent 1964, Trisha 1970 and Traci 1971.
He was a great landscape designer, and was very proud of his years working as the Head Grounds Keeper at Ritzville schools.
Later he co-owned the Pastime Sports Center with Beckey Kembel for 12 years where became known as “D Wizard.
“
In 2000, he and Beckey moved to Hawaii, where he thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of island life.
After several years, he returned to the mainland to visit his children and grandchildren in VA and MD.
Eventually he moved back to Sprague, WA to help care for his mother, whom he loved dearly.
Gerry had a strong faith in God, and was an active member of the Sprague Community Church.
He had a passion for helping others in need, as well as a loving heart for animals.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Mitchell.
Surviving Gerry are his brother, Leslie Allert (Dianne), son, Brent Allert, two daughters, Trisha Frye (Tim) and Traci Shank (Rob), seven grandchildren, Ryan (Kristin) , Rachel, Taylor, Zachary, Lindsay, Kyle, and Tommy, and one great-granddaughter, McKenzie, his niece Rachea Allert and nephew Kip Allert.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Sprague Community Church, 4th & Camp, Sprague, WA 99032.
The burial will be private at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
