Family dog killed near Cataldo, Sheriff says it’s not related to rumors of mass dog deaths

Shoshone County Sheriff Mitch Alexander confirmed Saturday that a dog has been killed in the area, but said he has been trying to dispel rumors that it is connected to stories of mass dog killings near Bonners Ferry.

The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office released information last week that said stories of more than 90 dogs being killed were false.

A family on CCC Road in Cataldo called deputies Friday morning to report finding their black lab beaten and shot to death on their property. A note was attached that warned the family to keep their dogs out of the trash and at home or they would be killed, Alexander said. The family was not threatened, he said.

Anyone who has information on the case or saw the dog prior to its death is asked to call deputy Tonia Brown at (208) 556-1114 ext. 1.
