College basketball roundup: Hodgins’ put-back gives EWU women win over Montana
Delaney Hodgins’ offensive rebound and put-back with 1 second left gave the Eastern Washington women a 67-65 come-from-behind victory over Montana in Big Sky Conference play Saturday at Reese Court in Cheney.
The win was the seventh straight for the Eagles, who are off to a 7-0 start in conference play for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
Eastern Washington fell behind 51-37 late in the third quarter thanks to a 5-minute scoring drought, but the Eagles went on a 18-5 run to get back into the game.
Hayley Hodgins led Eastern Washington (13-6, 7-0) with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Delaney Hodgins finished with 19 and Ashli Payne chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kayleigh Valley (University High School) led the Grizzlies (11-8, 4-4) with 19 points and seven rebounds.
The Eagles play at Portland State on Thursday.
Washington 69, Washington State 63: Kelsey Plum scored 24 points and the Huskies withstood the Cougars’ third-quarter charge and won in a Pac-12 Conference game in Seattle.
Washington State trailed by 13 at the half, but outscored Washington 24-9 in the third quarter to take a two-point lead. The Cougars’ Taylor Edmondson made all four of her 3-pointers in the third to spark the rally.
The Huskies (15-4, 6-2), however, used a 7-0 run late in the fourth to retake control.
Borislava Hristova scored 13 points and Edmondson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds for Washington State (12-7, 3-5), which plays California in Berkeley, California, on Friday.
Montana State 62, Idaho 59: Taylor Pierce’s 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark and the Bobcats (14-5, 7-1) escaped with a Big Sky Conference win over the Vandals (13-6, 5-2) in Moscow, Idaho.
Idaho held a nine-point lead early in the third quarter, but Montana State fought back to claim its sixth-straight win over the Vandals. Idaho’s Geraldine McCorkell had 15 points and eight rebounds and Christina Salvatore added 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
The Vandals play at Sacramento State on Thursday.
Puget Sound 87, Whitworth 69: Emily Sheldon had 24 points, six assists and five rebounds and the hot-shooting Loggers (11-6, 6-2) pulled away in the second half and beat the Pirates (10-7, 5-3) in a Northwest Conference game in Spokane.
Puget Sound led by four at the half, but made 17 of 26 shots from the floor and 14 of 18 free throws in the second half to pull away.
K.C. McConnell led Whitworth with 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Faith Emerson added 17.
The Pirates play Linfield in McMinnville, Oregon, on Friday.
CC Spokane 86, Columbia Basin 71: Bri King scored 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting and added four rebounds and four assists as the Sasquatch (14-6, 3-2) defeated the Hawks (11-9, 3-2) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game in Pasco.
Katlyn Summers added 19 points and seven rebounds for CCS, which made 24 of 29 from the free-throw line.
The Sasquatch play Yakima Valley at Spokane Community College on Wednesday.
North Idaho 83, Utah State-Eastern 44: Stormee Van Belle had 15 points and nine rebounds and the Cardinals (17-4, 5-3) eased past the Golden Eagles (8-14, 1-8) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Coeur d’Alene.
Shelby Cloninger added 13 points and Ebony Norman chipped in 12 for North Idaho. The Cardinals pulled down 23 offensive rebounds, which led to a 32-7 advantage in second-chance points.
North Idaho plays at Salt Lake on Thursday.

CC Spokane 105, Columbia Basin 83: Jake Love led four players in double figures with 23 points and the Sasquatch (19-2, 5-0) forced 27 turnovers in an easy win over the Hawks (8-10, 2-3) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game in Pasco.
Dalton Patchen added 21 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Sasquatch, who won their fifth straight.
CCS made 25 of 29 free throws and had a 29-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Andrew Reddout led Columbia Basin with 26 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Sasquatch play Yakima Valley Wednesday at Spokane Community College.
North Idaho 79, Utah State-Eastern 68: Braian Angola-Rodas made 17 of 19 free throws and finished with 31 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Cardinals (23-0, 8-0) erased a nine-point halftime deficit and beat the Golden Eagles (14-10, 1-8) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Coeur d’Alene.
After a poor-shooting first half, North Idaho made 15 of 32 shots from the floor and 18 of 23 free throws in the second half.
Brayon Blake added 21 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Cardinals. North Idaho plays at Salt Lake on Thursday.
