STCU robber confesses to two other bank jobs, faces new charges

From staff reports

Jeremy D. John has confessed to robbing a Chase Bank branch and trying to rob a Banner Bank branch, as well as to robbing an STCU branch in Spokane Valley.

John, 44, is being held in the Spokane County Jail and faces two new robbery charges on top of the robbery charge for the STCU incident.

John told Major Crimes detectives that he robbed a Chase Bank branch at 822 W. Francis on June 14, and tried to rob a Banner Bank branch at 508 W. Third Ave. on June 1.

He also confessed to the armed robbery of the STCU branch at 13211 E. 32nd Ave. on June 30. In that case, he jumped the teller counter and demanded money while brandishing a realistic-looking BB gun, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has said. A customer in the branch who was carrying a concealed weapon shot John, and he ran bleeding from the bank without money or the gun. He eluded police for several days, and was arrested at a motel on July 5.

The customer who shot John hasn’t been identified. He was legally carrying the weapon, the sheriff’s office has said.

John’s criminal history includes two convictions for robbery, in 2009 and 2010, and one for burglary.
