Body found in Spokane River

A body was recovered from the Spokane River west of the Maple Street Bridge early Saturday afternoon.

The man was found lodged in a downed tree on the north side of the river in the area of Ohio Avenue and Nettleton Street shortly after 11:30 a.m. Major Crimes detectives are investigating the death.

The man may have been in the river a while, police spokeswoman Officer Teresa Fuller said. His identity will be released by the medical examiner after an autopsy has been completed.
