Freezing temperatures possible tonight across Inland Northwest

The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a freeze warning for tonight for much of the Inland Northwest for lows in the lower to middle 30s.

Outlying areas and locations in sheltered valleys are considered the most vulnerable to frost and freezing temperatures, forecasters said.

The area in the warning extends from the Canadian border southward through the Palouse, including North Idaho

Frost can occur even at about 35 degrees.

The forecasted low for downtown Spokane is 40 degrees, and the North Side should drop to about 41.

Forecasters said the central urban areas will not likely experience frost, but outlying areas such as Deer Park, Davenport and the low-lying areas near Mount Spokane could see frost, forecasters said.

The last time temperatures in Spokane fell to freezing was on March 29 at 30 degrees. The city had lows of 33 degrees on April 5 and 25.

The average date of the last frost in Spokane is April 28.

Some areas can see frosts much later, including Davenport, which had freezing temperatures on June 13, 2015 and June 17, 2014.

The last time Spokane had a late spring frost was on May 24, 2010.
