Newsmakers: Pacers, Jazz swap point guards while Hawks get No. 12 pick
Traded The Pacers traded one Indianapolis native for another Wednesday, sending George Hill to Utah and acquiring Jeff Teague in a point guard swap that also includes Atlanta. While the deal cannot be announced officially, Hill’s agent, Bill Neff, confirmed the details. Atlanta receives the No. 12 overall pick in Thursday night’s draft.
Signed The Arizona Coyotes have addressed one of their biggest offseason needs, signing defenseman Alex Goligoski to a five-year, $27.375 million deal. Arizona acquired Goligoski’s negotiating rights in a trade with Dallas last week and brought him out for a visit. Goligoski liked what he saw and so did the Coyotes, taking one of the top free agent defensemen off the market.
Reported Police in Dallas say troubled QB Johnny Manziel reported a hit-and-run accident earlier this week. Senior Cpl. DeMarquis Black told The Associated Press the accident happened Monday night, and Manziel had a witness from his vehicle and an impartial witness. Manziel’s publicist, Denise Michaels, said the former Cleveland player told her he hit his head but didn’t have a concussion or other injury.
Transferred Utah forward Brekkott Chapman has transferred to Weber State. The 6-foot-9, 205-pound Chapman played in 36 games last season at Utah and averaged 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds. He has two years of eligibility remaining, but must sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Filed A man who claims he told Penn State football coach Joe Paterno in 1976 that he was sexually abused by Jerry Sandusky wants a judge to protect his identity and limit questioning by lawyers in a lawsuit against college sports’ governing body. Lawyers for the man called John Doe 150 say in a filing he gave a sworn deposition in a related case in 2014 and shouldn’t have to endure another one. The filing comes two days after Penn State asked the judge to reject a subpoena in the Paterno family lawsuit from the NCAA to the university seeking the man’s name and the identity of a Sandusky accuser who settled with the school over claims of abuse by Sandusky in 1971. Sandusky remains imprisoned on sexual abuse convictions.
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant faces a lawsuit from his former landlord over allegations of more than $60,000 in damages to a house that Bryant leased. The civil suit was filed last week by Texas state Sen. Royce West, an attorney who defended Bryant in a domestic violence case involving the 2014 All-Pro’s mother. West seeks damages of between $100,000 and $200,000.
Withdrew Second-ranked South Korean player Inbee Park withdrew from the U.S. Women’s Open because of a left thumb injury. The tournament is July 7-10 at CordeValle.
