Woman says jailed officer assaulted her 15 years ago

Associated Press

EUGENE, Ore. – A woman has come forward to say she was assaulted 15 years ago by a former Eugene police officer who is now in prison.

The Register-Guard reported the alleged victim did not identify Roger Magaqa by name, but described his appearance and conduct, leading officials to believe Magaqa was the assailant.

Magaqa is serving a 94-year prison sentence for multiple sexual assaults against women during that same time period of the most recent accusation.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy reported the allegation to the Eugene police auditor in October, and the case was completed and closed last month.

The alleged victim is an inmate of the Marion County Jail. She disclosed the sexual assault during an in-custody sexual assault notification interview, which is part of the jail’s book-in process.
