Felon who accidently shot himself after killing man sentenced to 28 years
A Spokane man with 13 prior felony convictions will spend about 28 years in prison for shooting a man in the head.
Brandon Mellon, 27, was sentenced to 340 months in jail after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter last October of Arnold Lommasson on Jan. 4, 2014. The sentence includes a mandatory five-year firearm enhancement.
Witnesses said Mellon was acting erratically and walked into Lommasson’s bedroom and shot him in the back of the head while Lommasson was playing video games at 2228 N. Astor St.
After the shooting, Mellon fled to Pasco, where he was apprehended after accidentally shooting himself in the leg. He was charged in November with possessing marijuana in his Spokane County Jail cell. That charge was dropped earlier this week because of Mellon’s guilty plea in the manslaughter case.
Mellon was also ordered to pay about $6,400 in restitution and court costs.
