Kenneth Lee Jackson, 90, of Liberty Lake, WA, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2016 at Hospice House of Spokane.



Kenneth was born on January 6, 1926 in Berkeley, CA to Lee Albert Jackson and Marion (Willis) Jackson.

He grew up in Alameda, CA with two sisters, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 18, serving during World War II and later during the Korean War.



In July 1948, Kenneth married Carmen Luisa Lopez and they had four children together.

He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and received a B.S.

degree in Physiology and Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics.

He held a research position at the U.S.

Naval Radiological Defense Laboratory in San Francisco, CA from 1954 until 1960, when he was appointed Head of the Radiobiology Group of Boeing’s Aerospace Program and the family relocated to Bellevue, WA.

In 1963, Kenneth joined the faculty of the University of Washington and was named Chairman of the Radiological Sciences Group in 1966, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1991 as Professor Emeritus.



Kenneth was an avid sports car enthusiast, motorcyclist, film and videographer, ham radio operator and especially enjoyed camping, fishing and sailing with his family.

After the children were grown, he and his wife continued sailing, taking extensive trips from the Puget Sound into Canadian waters.

In 2007, they moved to Liberty Lake, WA, where he continued to enjoy his ham radio communications and rode his Gold Wing motorcycle until he was 88 years old.

Kenneth leaves a wonderful legacy in an extensive film/video library documenting his family’s life from 1957 to present.

Kenneth is survived by Carmen, his beloved wife of 67 years; and children Kathryn (Jackson) Hobbs and Victor Hobbs of Port Orchard, WA, Martin Jackson and Linda Anchondo of Mercer Island, WA, K. Robert Jackson of Redmond, WA, and Anne (Jackson) Burke and Steve Burke of Greenacres, WA.

He was “Papa” to 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and loving uncle to 19 nieces and nephews.

Kenneth is also survived by his sisters Shirley (Jackson) Eoff of Lafayette, CA, Carol (Jackson) Hague and brother-in-law Harlan Hague of Stockton, CA, and sisters-in-law Racquel Kieferdorf and Linda Lopez of San Leandro, CA.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Marion Jackson, mother-in-law Francis deLopez Moffat and father-in-law Douglas Moffat, brothers-in-law Ernest Lopez, Paul Unsworth, Charles Eoff, Bill Kieferdorf, sister-in-law Virginia Lopez, and beloved grandson Paul Jackson.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. 8th Ave., Spokane Valley, WA.
