Lewis and Clark High School’s ProStart Management team recently won the Washington state Boyd’s Coffee ProStart Invitational competition.

Team members Josh Brower, Lexi Davidson, Alisyn Brooks and Angel Harvey presented a restaurant concept and solved challenges restaurants face daily.

In April, the team will compete in the National ProStart competition in Dallas. Each team member received a $1,000 Johnson & Wales University scholarship and a $2,000 Culinary Institute of America scholarship, which is renewable.

The ProStart Washington Restaurant Association Education Foundation named Ferris High School teacher Brenda Marshall the ProStart Teacher of the Year for her contribution to Ferris’ culinary arts program. She will serve on the foundation’s board of directors and has been invited to the national association’s Education Foundation Educator Excellence Awards.

ProStart is a nationwide, two-year high school program that helps students become restaurant and food service leaders.

CV students raise money for YMCA

Central Valley Alternative Curriculum students raised $1,700 for the YMCA’s after school and sports programs.

The students raised the money through a Central Valley High School fundraiser in which advisory classes competed to donate the most money, with the winning class getting donuts for the entire month of March.

Danford to be principal at Evergreen

Mike Danford has been selected as the principal of Evergreen Elementary School.

Danford previously served as Evergreen’s assistant principal. He also worked as principal assistant at Shiloh Hills Elementary School for two years and spent many years teaching at Midway Elementary School.

He will begin working as principal on July 1. Current principal Kevin Peterson will move to an administrative position at the district office.
